Delmar Main Street - Summer Associate VISTA
Delmar Main Street is deploying a team of Summer Associate VISTAs to support long‑term disaster recovery and economic mobility following the May 2025 EF‑3 tornado, which caused $1.6 billion in damage and affected hundreds of parcels within its service area. Through the D‑Train Small Business Navigation Model, VISTAs will conduct on‑the‑ground outreach to assess needs, connect residents and businesses to financial resources, and help rebuild the commercial corridor that anchors eight surrounding neighborhoods. This work strengthens key social determinants of health by improving financial stability, restoring access to essential goods and services, and building resilient, community‑informed systems that support both immediate recovery and long‑term economic opportunity.
The key responsibilities of the Summer Associate VISTAs will be:
Support business outreach by connecting with local merchants, gathering information, and helping promote available resources and programs.
Coordinate community events and activation efforts through planning, setup, coordination, and on‑site support.
Contribute to corridor improvement projects such as beautification, public space maintenance, and gathering data that informs long‑term planning.
Strengthen organizational capacity by helping prepare communications, updating materials, and supporting social media or marketing efforts that highlight district activities.
